WHICH MOTHER-IN LAW WILL BE BOILING MAD?

We recently had a great class role playing activity that had lots of English flying through all corners of the classroom and spilling out into the hallway. The class was divided into groups of six and each group picked a mother, father, mother-in law, father-in law, bride and groom. Each bride and groom was to listen as their parents tried to persuade them to live in either the United States or China. The bride was Chinese but born in America, where her parents had imigrated. The groom was Chinese, but born in China, where his parents still lived. After the bride and groom listened to their parents' arguments about where they should settle, each couple made an exit to the hallway where each pair discussed, then decided where they should live. They re-entered the classroom and each couple announced to their "family" where they decided to live and why. I loved to hear all the (sometimes very intense) English flying and listen to the logic, sympathy, compassion and sense of duty expressed.
