today was great. dad and i walked to campus to attend luke's ward with him. we skipped sunday school to chat for an hour with a bishopric member who taught with the china teacher's program a few years ago. he gave us a lot of insight. he said one of the assignments he gave his students at the end of the semester was to write about something they'd lost this past year. most chinese students lose their bikes (to thieves) and many write about that. but this student wrote, "this year in this english class i lost my hatred towards americans." that touched me.
after church, luke and jonathan came over and at our request, gave dad and me a blessing for our china experience. it was quite a sweet thing to have a son give us a blessing. thanks guys. i feel everything will go okay for us this year.
the kimballs from texas arrived this afternoon and they're rooming with us in our off-campus student apartment during our training. we had a great afternoon and evening getting to hear each other's life stories, courtship stories, and lots of talk about china teaching. we'll be flying to china on the same flight and be the only two couples teaching at our university in xi'an, so we're going to get to know each other really well this next year.
we're excited to start our training in the morning and get rolling.
