HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVID DEAR

One year older and wiser too...oh yes, 65 is a great age to be. Medicare suddenly takes a great interest in your health and well-being. Since we were teaching and then did English Corner with about 75 students after our last class, we didn't get back to our apartment til midnight. A long day. No time for hoopla or celebration, so this afternoon I marched my class into Dave's classroom right in the middle of his lesson, and we all sang Happy Birthday to him. (The Chinese tradition is to clap on the first beat of each measure as they sing the song.) The other picture is of David with a gift-wrapped apple one of his students gave him. The other gift he received was from me. (Well, actually he picked it out and bought it himself but I insisted he wait til his birthday to open it.) He's been wanting a microwave all year and used his birthday as an excuse to finally purchase one.
