Last Sunday on the taxi drive to church, I saw several huge decorated Christmas trees placed in front of stores. It amazes me that in this atheist country, Christmas is so evident. (Well, I must confess, it's pretty much promoted by retailers.) But the irony is, unlike the politically correct "Happy Holidays" promoted in the USA, everyone in China says to us foreigners, "Merry Christmas!"
My favorite part of Christmas in China is teaching our Christmas lesson to our students all week. We sing Christmas songs with them, read Christmas stories, play games, and yes...even explain how Christmas began by telling of the birth of Jesus Christ. We sing "Silent Night" together, as well as "Jingle Bells" and "Rudolph".
